soil health

Our food is only as healthy as the plant that it came from. Our plants receive necessary nutrients from soil that is replenished and regenerated.  When it is tilled and farmed over and over without time to regenerate, the soil is deprived of essential nutrients for plants and animals alike.

There is an entire world living under our feet which needs to be respected in a new way. The microbes digest the nutrients for the plant roots to absorb, the earthworms till the land to let water, oxygen and space into the ground and fungi provide a web of connections for the entire ecosystem to work together. So when we use pesticides and herbicides that might pass the “human” test, we are still killing off parts of this essential ecosystem to make the food the best it can be. Isn’t it hard enough to get our kids to eat vegetables? If they could eat one carrot that contains the same amount of nutrients as ten carrots, I think we’d all consider that a win!
